A daughter of two immigrants, Dr. Mari was raised in the South Bronx and was fortunate to have a supportive family and top-notch teachers. Her professional, academic and public service credentials, combined with a heart of compassion, have helped her realize her dream of becoming an effective doctor for those facing significant life challenges.



Current Post:

Volunteer founder and Counseling Director* of Hope Family Resources, providing 16 years of pro bono administrative work, therapeutic counseling, and staff education and training since its inception in 1985.

 

Professional Mental Health Education & Training Credentials (Partial List):

  • Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Clinical Psychology (with research thesis), summa cum laude, Fordham University, 1991;
  • Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology, summa cum laude, Fordham University, 1984;

Professional Public Service (Partial List):

Besides her long-term association with Hope Family Resources, Dr. Mari's career of more than 20 years includes:

  • Clinical psychiatry, child and family therapy work and neuropsychology testing at the busy South Bronx Morrisania Neighborhood Family public health clinic;
  • Individual therapeutic/vocational counseling and workshop leadership at the University Counseling Center of Fordham in the Bronx;
  • Neuropsychological evaluation and therapist work at the developmental disabilities clinic of Flower Hospital of Manhattan;
  • Clinical research on a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-funded study of childbearing loss and depression at Columbia University; in the Institute for the Development of Exceptional Children at Manhattan's Roosevelt Hospital; in NYU Nursing School's projects on families/parenting, and moral growth in nurses; and for a Westchester, NY law firm studying surgically injured women
  • Work in applied arts education for children at the Manhattan Lab Museum, Cooper-Hewitt Museum, and Manhattan's PS 87.

 

Accomplishments (Partial List):

  • Published articles on women suffering from childbearing losses (1992 & 1994);
  • Awards in the areas of psychological service/research, biology, art, French and mathematics (1974-1990), for example, the Parent's Roundtable Family Life Award for "outstanding leadership" in 1987;
  • College and church conference presentations on psychology, counseling, and womens' well being (1989-present), including a Nassau, NY Community College lecture on rational psychology and counseling in 1994;
  • Almost two dozen radio and television interviews (satellite, network and cable) on childbearing loss, faith, mental health problems, and healing (1989 - present). such as Good Day NY (Fox TV) program on spiritual dimensions of psychological difficulties in 1993.
